The clinical training program at The Piper Group offers opportunities for clinical mental health training with onsite supervision from licensed mental health therapists under the direction of Dale Piper, Psy.D. and Julie L Piper, LMFT. Dr. Dale Piper provides clinical direction and training at the site. Both Dale and Julie provide clinical supervision according to the needs and requirements of prospective students. Dr. Piper has experience with a number of years teaching in academic programs and clinical training programs for counselors and psychologists. Julie Piper has completed AAMFT approved supervision coursework. We offer Practicum and Internship experiences for qualified candidates who are in good standing with their respective University programs. This training site operates with affiliation agreements with university programs to meet the requirements for the respective degrees. We have also served as a preceptor site for psychiatric nurse practitioners gaining their certifications. We offer clinical mental health and marriage and family masters level training. The training site is organized to meet experience placement requirements for CACREP accredited training programs. We have also served students in COAMFTE accredited programs.
The clinical training program at The Piper Group is a “high touch” training environment where there are multiple opportunities for direct observation, conducting psychotherapy, supervision, and audio/video recording of counseling sessions. Quality client care is a paramount value at The Piper Group, and we believe that high touch training with many avenues of licensed supervision involvement and quality client care go hand in hand. In other words, we don’t just throw students into counseling situations to “sink or swim.” We have a structured training approach that begins with clinical interviewing and case conceptualization and unfolds into graduated counseling experiences according to the individual student’s mastery of counseling skills, clinical interests, and professional development. A wide range of experience opportunities with a general clinical mental health population are provided. We see children, families, couples, and individual adult clients with a wide range of presenting problems and counseling concerns.
